CLIENT SERVICE COORDINATOR
The Client Service Coordinator performs a variety of client services and administrative duties to ensure that clients of 
Alexandria Animal Hospital receive top quality service.  Coordinates reception area activities to ensure that the Hospital runs smoothly.  Coordinators work toward this end by performing the following duties:

 

Processing In Clients and Patients:  Greet clients.  Create files for new clients.  Prepare all required forms such as patient medical history records, health certificates, admission or boarding forms, euthanasia authorization, etc.   

Processing Out Clients and Patients:  Accurately receipt clients through the computer.  Accurately fill prescriptions as
directed by veterinarian.  Collect payment from clients.
 

 

Medical Records Maintenance: Maintain medical records in all areas of the hospital accurately and neatly. 

   

          Telephones/Communications: Answer a multi-line telephone system.  Respond to inquiries or direct calls to appropriate 
          personnel.  Provide sub-professional information regarding general husbandry of patients and hospital protocol.  
          Schedule appointments for office visits, surgeries, boarding, grooming, etc.



VETERINARY ASSISTANT
The Veterinary Assistant performs a variety of animal healthcare duties to assist Veterinarians, Technicians, Client Services Coordinators, Custodians, and Administration in providing the highest quality medical care to the patients of the Alexandria Animal Hospital. The Veterinary Assistant works toward this end by performing the following duties:

Patient Care: Maintain a safe, sanitary and comfortable environment for patients of all species. Feed patients
and clean cages.

Patient Handling: Assist veterinarians and technicians with procedures by preparing treatment area, restraining patients of all species, or doing any other duty as required.


Facilities Care: Cleans exam tables, floor around table, equipment, etc. after assisting in procedures. Sterilizes surgical instruments, gowns, and other items used in surgery. 

   

LICENSED VETERINARY TECHNICIAN  
Licensed Veterinary Technicians perform a variety of animal healthcare duties to assist Veterinarians, Client Services Coordinators and Administration in providing the highest quality medical care to the patients of the Alexandria Animal Hospital.

 

Dentistry:  Complete oral exams, supra and sub gingival cleaning, probing, polishing, charting, and maintenance of machines and logbooks.


Chemotherapy:
  Calculations per doctor instructions, follow proper chemotherapy safety procedures both for self and the Veterinary Assistant, administration of medications.


Laboratory:  Maintain Idexx Catalyst, QBC, VetStat Machine.  Perform differentials, reticulocyte counts, platelets counts, pcv/TS, urinalysis, fecal float/direct/cytology, and F.N.A.s.  Perform Bile Acids, ACTH, and Phenobarbital levels, etc.

Radiology:  Use digital dental x-ray.  Must be able to obtain radiographs and have knowledge of proper positioning and techniques. Special views such as OFA, Penn Hipp, pnemocystogram, skyline OCD, skull, etc.

Technician appointments:  Educate clients pertaining to Insulin Injections, SQ fluid administration, Soft Paws, etc.

Perform duties including but not limited to anal gland expression, pedicures, venopuncture.

ICU:  Procedures to include but not limited to: peripheral and central venous catheter placement, venopuncture, administration of IV, IM and SQ medications, EKGs, TPRs, blood pressure monitoring, CVPs, O2 therapy, placement of nasal O2, NE tubes, calculation of fluid treatment, administration of medications per doctors orders, maintaining feeding tubes, and proper nutrition.

Surgery:  Organize patient files for procedures of the day, obtain pre-operative blood work, calculate drug dosages per doctors orders, induce and intabate patients, assist Veterinary Assistants with patient monitoring and surgical preparation, assist with surgical procedures as needed, supervise patient recovery with Assistants, administer emergency medications, record drugs in medical records and log books, and record surgery and anesthesia times in medical records and surgery log.

 

Education/Experience:
Associates degree or better in Applied Sciences from an accredited Veterinary Technicians Program, licensed in Veterinary Technology within the Commonwealth of Virginia.
