Laura Allen, B.S., LVT
Laura graduated from Virginia Tech with a B.S. in animal science and received her veterinary technology training at Northern Virginia Community College. She completed her externship for the veterinary technology program at Alexandria Animal Hospital and has remained ever since. Laura is also a certified dog trainer, with a special interest in canine behavior. Exotic animal care is one of her loves but she works across all animal specialties. Laura lives in Woodbridge with her German Shepherds, Miniature Schnauzer, cats, Amazon parrots, and assorted tortoises.
Amanda Blankenship, LVT
Amanda grew up traveling all over the world with her military family. After finally settling in Northern Virginia, she started working at the Alexandria Animal Hospital in 1999 as a Veterinary Assistant. She was impressed by the level of care and family like in environment. She then pursued an Associates Degree in Veterinary Technology at Northern Virginia Community College, graduating in 2003. Some of her special interests include anesthesiology/pain management, feline behavior, and nursing care and comfort. In her spare time, she does some at home nursing care for felines, reads, walks and enjoys time with friends and family. Amanda lives in Alexandria with her four kitties Poof, Nacho, Chilli and blind kitty EyeCandy.
Jennifer Dinnat, LVT, VTS (ECC)
Jennifer grew up on the West Coast and received her Associates of Applied Science from Bel-Rea Institute of Animal Technology in Denver, Colorado in 1998. You still might catch a glimpse of her on re-runs of the Animal Planet show “Emergency Vets” that was filmed where she did her internship. She worked at a small animal and exotic practice in Boulder, Colorado before moving here and joining Alexandria Animal Hospital in 2000. She moved to the Emergency Service in 2001 and quickly found her love of Emergency Medicine. In 2005 she was certified as a Veterinary Technician Specialist in Emergency & Critical Care [VTS(ECC)]. She enjoys teaching and has guest lectured at NOVA’s Veterinary Technician Program and at the Arlington Career Center’s Animal Care Program. Jennifer has traveled all over the world and looks forward to going anywhere she can in the future. She currently shares her life with her husband Manu, daughter Camille, and 4 cats, Savannah, Shadow, Treadley & Spooky.
Jenna Hagar, BS, LVT, VTS (ECC), Emergency Service Supervisor
Jenna has been a Licensed Veterinary Technician since 1997 who, in 2003, was certified as a Veterinary Technician Specialists in Emergency & Critical Care by the Academy of Veterinary Emergency Critical Care Technicians (AVECCT). AVECCT certification is an in-depth 2 year long application and examination process designed to assure the public and the profession that veterinary technician specialists in emergency and critical care are truly qualified to provide a higher standard of care to patients. There are currently only 194 members worldwide. AVECCT was established in 1996 and was the first academy to be recognized by the National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America.
Carla Notario, LVT
Carla graduated from Northern Virginia Community College in 1996 with her certification and licensing as a Veterinary Technician. She is currently pursuing certification as a Veterinary Technician Specialist in Emergency & Critical Care VTS/ECC and Small Animal Internal Medicine VTS/SAIM. Carla has worked at the Alexandria Animal Hospital since August of 1996! She lives in Springfield with her husband and two daughters, a Doberman mix, Kenya and their cat, Petra. Carla lived overseas most of her childhood and stills likes to travel whenever possible.
Toni Pullen, LVT
Toni Pullen is a licensed Veterinary Technician Supervisor and has been employed at Alexandria Animal Hospital since August 1999. She achieved her Associates in Applied Science degree from Northern Virginia Community College in 2004. Toni is married with four kids, (two four-legged), time managment is her priority! Her enjoyed leisure activities are crafts and gardening. Toni is a very proficient, well rounded LVT that aspires to excellence in the Veterinary field.
Arrie Scribner, LVT
Arrie is a Licensed Veterinary Technician working on the Emergency Service overnights. She started working in veterinary hospitals before she even graduated from high school. Having been a licensed Technician for the better part of 18 years, she started working Alexandria Animal Hospital in December of 2004. This was after a few years hiatus, during which time she was home schooling children and caring for her own pets. She is a mother of seven children and has a full menagerie, including two Weimaraners, six kitties, ferrets, birds and fish. Her special interests in Veterinary medicine include cytology, taking a peek microscopically and identifying cells that may give clues to disease processes as simple as infection or as dangerous as cancer. She also especially enjoys radiology and ultrasound as non-invasive diagnostic tools. Through on the job experience and schooling, she hopes to become more proficient, particularly in ultrasound. The emergency service gives her ability to spend more time with her family and at the same time hone her skills in caring for animals. Arrie finds her niche where the circumstances call for quick responses, with gentle compassionate handling, to let the animals know we are there to help them when they are in distress.
Mary Wiley, LVT
Mary Wiley has lived in Northern Virginia her enitre life. She graduated from Northern Virginia Community College with an Associates in Applied Science in 2000. Mary did her internship right here at Alexandria Animal Hospital and liked it here so much, she has been working here as a Licensed Veterinary Technician ever since. Some of Mary’s special interests are providing loving nursing care to our critically ill patients, taking dental radiographs and placing bandages. She also has a special interest in caring for our older patients. Mary’s menagerie include one dog “Bella”, two cats “Patty Cakes” and “Nala”, two ferrets “Boris” and “Frosty”, one bunny “Bean” and a pony “Tango”.
